“Each of you should give as you have decided in your heart to give. You should not be sad when you give, and you should not give because you feel forced to give. God loves the person who gives happily.” (9:7 NCV)
Wrong Reasons for Giving
• Your boss threatens your “job security” if you don’t contribute to the company’s United Way campaign;
• A homeless person accosts you on the street, asking for money to buy a bus ticket. You suspect he’ll probably purchase alcohol (or worse) instead, but you don’t have enough self-confidence to tell him “No”;
• Your father says, “You’re 18 now. It’s time to make your first blood donation.”;
• There goes your pastor again, telling the congregation about their obligation to support God’s work (i.e. the pastor’s church) financially.
The Right Reason for Giving
You have a warm feeling inside, an almost uncontrollable urge to help.
