“Obey the rulers who have authority over you. Only God can give authority to anyone, and [God] puts these rulers in their places of power. People who oppose the authorities are opposing what God has done, and they will be punished.” (13: 1-2 CEV)
This verse fills me with righteous anger. It is so wrong!
According to this verse . . .
If I were a soldier in the Serbian army, I should follow the command of my leaders to kill innocent people in the town of Srebrenica.
According to this verse . . .
If I work at a bank, I should follow my boss’ order when she tells me to buy subprime mortgages, which I know are a toxic investment.
According to this verse . . .
The protesters in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Bahrain, Syria, Yemen, Algeria, Iraq, Jordan, Morocco, etc. are wrong because they oppose leaders appointed by God.

We should NOT respect a person simply because he or she fills a leadership person.
We should respect a person because he or she is GOOD.

What is a “saint”?! What is a “martyr”?!
A normal person who would rather die than submit to a ruler who is wrong.
